‘My Valentina comes first before everything else’
Serbian basketball star Marko Jaric has managed to conceal from the media the fact he has been in Serbia for over a week, but in an exclusive interview for Blic, he tells us how he is spending the stay in Belgrade, how much the role of father has changed him and what it is like to be married to one of the most attractive women on the planet.
Although he was originally supposed to come to Belgrade with his wife, supermodel Adriana Lima, and their daughter Valentina, the basketball player eventually visited the capital on his own.
- I am staying ten or so days and I want to see my folks here and wrap up some business here. Adriana and Valentina were supposed to join me, but something came up. It has its pros, because if all three of us had come, the media would be on us straight away and I wouldn’t find the time to concentrate on what I have come to do here, said Jaric, who has a Twitter profile, from which the media has been picking up the updates of Marko’s private life.
- I am not particularly keen on social networking and I cannot believe the media find it interesting what someone is posting. My intention is to share the content with my fans, and not for the media to download photos and fabricate stories out of thin air. Adriana was first to set up her official Twitter account a month ago, and after I suggested to her what she should write a few times, she told me to create my own account and there it was. However, mine is just in its trial period, said Jaric with a smile.
- I don’t read ridiculous newspapers and no-one keeps me up to date with their headlines. I have noticed Valentina is in the centre of their attention. When they write something about her, then we just laugh, said Marko and shared his disappointment with the “sad fact” that some people care more about other people’s lives than their own.
What has definitely changed Jaric’s outlook on life and priorities after he met the Victoria’s Secret angel Adriana is the little angel the Brazilian model and him got two years ago.
- Ever since Valentina was born I am a more responsible man and have a different view of the world and life. I am happy to have become a father in the right moment. It’s most important that you have a child when you are ready and have time to dedicate yourself to it, because no money can be a substitute for the father’s presence in a child’s life. I have already achieved my career goals and dreams and have travelled the world and now it’s not that important for me now. What matters most for me now is that Valentina is happy and that she is doing well, said Marko, who spends his time with his family between New York and Miami.
- We are tied to New York because of work, but we are thrilled with our Miami house, which is big enough to take in all of our families and friends. We both left our homelands at a young age and it feels good now to have our families around us. We always have guests and the atmosphere suits us, said Marko, who said he is enjoying his fatherly role and cherishes every moment he spends with his little girl, Valentina.

Valentina is now nearly two years old, and father Marko Jaric says she is coping well with two different native languages her parents speak.
- I talk to her in Serbian, while Adriana talks to her in Portuguese, while everyone else around her talk in English. Valentina doesn’t speak all three languages, but understands everything and confuses them. You ask her something in Serbian, she tries to say it in Serbian, but just like every other baby finds it hard at this stage to juggle the three languages, revealed Marko.
